I Used to Crawl, But Now I Fly

I remember when I was a caterpillar.
I'd crawl and crawl until I got to where I needed to be.
Whether that be meters or miles, I'd get there,
Nothing would ever stop me.
I remember I'd climb those big leaves.
I'd take every inch so seriously.
Because if I let the wind blow me away,
That still wouldn't cease my day,
I'd get back up and try again.

But I also remember that day when I felt so afraid.
Afraid of the things surrounding me.
Whether it be hungry cats or stormy days.
Whether it be toddler sightings or people's shoes,
I'd be afraid.
I'm so little, I'd say.
I'm not as beautiful, I'd say.
And sometimes that would stop my day.
But I remember, I took a chance.
I decided to find a new me.
I found who I truly was meant to be.
And soon enough, nothing stopped me.

I didn't crawl on leaves,
Nor did I crawl for either meters or miles.
I fluttered into the world from my old cocoon,
I found who I truly was on the inside:
A beautiful, stunning butterfly.

Everyone's beautiful,
Everyone's handsome.
No one can tell you any different
But yourself.
