I Still Remain

But because she's a girl with
A quiet, bold heart,
Because she's strong and grips onto the stars,
She remains,
Unbroken and finely restored everyday.
Nothing will stand in her way.

But because no one truly knows me,
Artistic and relevant to honesty and integrity,
Because I don't complain or fight back in words,
I remain,
Misunderstood and underestimated,
A victim of biased feats.
I've never been treated so unfairly,
It scared me,
But because I am who I am,
I remain.

But because she lifts up her head and stands tall before the crowds,
With a smile full of grace and head clammed out of doubts,
Because deep within her heart is a love faced with no ignorance,
Her love remains pure and just,
Overwhelming understanding of each person before her,
Unconditional broken hearts for each person she faces.
Taking each heart to the extent of hers,
And because she is who she is,
She finds a world that remains so impure.

But because I don't understand,
Why am I misunderstood, discriminated?
Why am I faced with this ignorance,
Why do I feel so alone in this?
Shooting eyes, ignoring ears,
I never thought I'd have this fear.
But because no one takes the time,
All I can do is make simple words rhyme.
She is who I am.

She's in love,
She's a prosy,
She's open-minded,
She's kind,
She's aggressive,
She's competitive,
She's tough, yet
She's sweet,
She's sensitive,
She's a dreamer,
She's a believer,
She's determined
And she's returning.

But because I am who I am,
With a heart speaking foreign grace,
Even with a chance, I still lose my race.
People cutting through lines and space,
People shoving their hand into my face,
People never looking past my eyes,
Believing every lie,
But because I am who I am,

I still remain.
